Danny Cipriani named Magners Player of the Season 2008
Danny Cipriani was named Magners Player of the Season at London Wasps End of Season Awards Dinner at the Hurlingham Club, London on 14 May. The award, sponsored by Magners Irish Cider in association with the London Wasps Supporters Club, was voted for by Wasps fans and was presented to Cipriani by Richard Barnes, Magners Brand Manager.
The vote was close with nominations being received for a number of players including Fraser Waters, James Haskell and Riki Flutey. However with his consistent outstanding performances throughout the 2007/08 season, fly-half Cipriani was an obvious frontrunner. On accepting his award, he said:
"I am delighted to have won this award, not least because it has been voted for by the fans who have given us great support throughout the season. I feel very lucky to be acknowledged in this way and I am very grateful to our forward pack and back line who have allowed me to be part of a team who have played some great rugby this season. I am really looking forward to building on my performances this year and winning more silverware with London Wasps."
Cipriani's award is a reflection of the growing praise for the twenty year old who also won the Young Player of the Season Award. He has also been nominated for the PRA's Players' Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year Awards which will be announced on 21 May and shortlisted for the Premiership Player of the Season and Discovery of the Season, to be announced on 28 May. Having won his first England cap during the Six Nations and a place in the international squad touring New Zealand in June, the future is undoubtedly bright for him, London Wasps and England.
The London Wasps Awards Dinner also saw accolades bestowed upon Paul Sackey for Try of the Season and Riki Flutey for the coveted Players' Player of the Season Award.
